Your Role
This is a frontline support internship. You'll spend most of your time on calls and in the help desk, helping interns from around the world get the most out of their Virtual Internships placement.
Virtual Internships places students and graduates into remote internships with host companies across the globe.
Our Placement Success Advisor (PSA) team supports those interns while they're on the job: checking in, solving problems, and stepping in when something isn't working.
As a Placement Support Intern, you'll join that team. If you enjoy talking to people, like being the person who sorts things out, and want to learn how a global operations team really works, this role is for you.
To be upfront: this is not a strategy or project role from day one. Project work comes later, once you're confident in the core role. In a typical week you might calm a nervous intern in their first week, untangle a scheduling mix-up between an intern and their supervisor, and spot early signs that an internship is going off track.
This is a 3-month, unpaid internship focused on providing you with hands-on experience in a process-driven role focused on reliability, organisation, and attention to detail. You will work within clearly defined systems and procedures, with support and training provided throughout the internship.
What You'll Be Doing
The role is expected to be 25 - 30 hours per week, with availability to attend required sync meetings. You'll start supported and build up to working independently. Once you're confident in the core role, you can take on operational project work.
Week 1: Learn. Shadow calls, learn our tools, and handle simple tickets with review.
Weeks 2-3: Co-lead. Run calls with a PSA alongside you and manage tickets with spot checks.
Weeks 4 +: Own. Run your PSAs' calls and some tickets, with a weekly check-in with your manager.
From around week 5: Grow. If the core role is going well, you'll take on project work such as improving our processes, frameworks, and team guides.
Project work is earned, not guaranteed. It's added on top of the core role, not instead of it.
Who We're Looking For
We care more about how you communicate and follow through than about your degree or past job titles.
You'll fit well if you:
Speak and write clear, natural English, and adjust your tone to whoever you're talking to
Stay warm and calm when someone is confused, stressed, or frustrated
Genuinely enjoy talking to people, including on repetitive, everyday calls
Do what you say you'll do, and tell someone early when you can't
Are comfortable learning new tools and working remotely with a global team
It's a bonus if you have:
Experience in customer service, student support, tutoring, peer mentoring, or a similar people-facing role
Experience working or studying across cultures or time zones
This probably isn't the role for you if you're mainly looking for strategy, research, or project work. We'd rather you know that now.
What You'll Gain
Real Operational Experience
You will contribute to live internship operations supporting interns and host companies globally.
Professional Systems Exposure
Gain hands-on experience using operational and customer success tools used across global organisations.
Structured Development
Receive regular feedback, defined expectations, and clear workflow training throughout the internship.
Professional Reference
Successful completion of the internship will include a professional reference supported by documented performance and contribution.
Equality & Diversity
Virtual Internships is an equal opportunity employer, committed to equality and diversity amongst both our employees and prospective applicants. We ensure all applicants are treated equally and fairly throughout our recruitment process.
